    Karl

    in General Discussions

My title is Lying in Wait by the Golden Gate. When I got it I mentally added bridge and thought of fog and clouds. My daughter lives in Berkeley and can see the Golden Gate bridge from her windows. So I have been working on some clouds for another project and decided to work on that for this project. The problem is that I am not a painter, Bondo did not really understand that when he included me. I am a printmaker, so my work may not be framed. I thankfully talked to Karen Wharton and Jody Wiggins at the TAS show at Malaga Cove and found out it has to go on an easel. Yikes, glad I know that. So now I have to make this work. My daughters says that the fog around the Golden Gate Bridge is called Karl. Really, the weather people refer to Karl. She told me to google it. My work should be titled Karl.

Lying in wait by the Golden Gate, with Karl.

    Carolyn Liesy AYTWIAT

When I got my title I immediately added bridge to the phrase, lying in wait by the Golden Gate. So, I thought about the bridge and then my thought thread moved to clouds and rain. Thus my clouds and raindrops piece. My daughter can see the Golden Gate bridge from her living room window and she told me that the fog in San Francisco is named Karl. She says the weather news actually refers to Karl.

I am a printmaker so I use ink and plates and a press. This piece is printed on both sides of mylar. Then I printed some raindrops and added them so they dangle and provide a bit of movement. The cloud is printed on gampi paper, a very delicate rice paper, and then crushed.

I think just paint the sides Judy... yeah, paint the sides, no frame work needed :)

Oh. I didn't know it had to go on an easel. I'm working on a stretched canvas (don't know whether I'll add collage to the painting), but I thought it could be sculpture or any other kind of artwork. Must it be framed or is it okay to just paint the sides?
