My favorite thing to paint - and typically the main ‘focus’ in my Wildlife Art oil paintings is: (ding ding ding - you guessed it) the animals eyes - windows into their often helpless yet dangerously wild souls! Lions are a special fascination of mine - their soulful golden brown eyes as well as their tawny coats & the interactions within their amazing prides. So for my title, Seeing Through Stars: My first thought was of a large hyper-realistic (maybe B&W) human eye - with the light reflections in the eye of the ‘stars’ - perfect right? But which ‘Stars’: celebs or celestial? or both? Big dipper? Milky Way? or the Hollywood sign / night LA skyline with stars? And which ‘Seeing’: the literal act of seeing or the technical astronomical term Seeing? (Perfect for my engineer brain right? *I spared you all a spreadsheet! You’re welcome!) In Astronomy/ Physics: seeing = a measurement of clarity of stars - specifically the measure of atmospheric turbulence measured in arcseconds. Explore Seeing vs Transparency? Could take a while.. Possibly simplify: incorporate Sophia Loren’s iconic eye shape & makeup = seeing something through a star’s eyes? I have sketched on my ipad a few basic ideas - envisioning positioning & focus of various eye shapes - still deciding on canvas size .. the sketch on canvas & hopefully the painting process begins this weekend!! *at least my first attempt... do we get 2 tries with our painting like we did with the Fortune Cookies? What a Fun Challenge for us all!! Thoughts or suggestions? Karen
